Mass assembly at Dept. of Energy & Climate Change: an update on travel and more…

On Saturday 16th February, we’re taking to the streets for a fuel bill assembly at the Department of Energy and Climate Change. Find out more here. Here’s a quick update and bit more info on the plan…

We’ll be meeting at 2pm at the Department of Energy and Climate Change. The address is 3 Whitehall Place, SW1A 2AW, situated just off Whitehall. There’s a map here: http://goo.gl/maps/n5010. The building is near Charing Cross, Embankment and Westminster tube stations. Westminster is the nearest accessible tube station.

We have limited funds available to pay for travel to the assembly for those who would not otherwise be able to make it. If you do need a travel refund, please contact us in advance by email on fuelpovertyaction@gmail.com or by phone on 07985 980013 no later than Tuesday 12th February to let us know how much you will need and your journey details. We will let you know by Thursday 14th February whether or not we are able to refund all or part of your travel costs (this will depend on how much is requested in total). Please then try to bring a receipt with you on the day.

On the day…
This is shaping up to be a really powerful event. There’s a real diversity of groups involved and this is a great opportunity for us all to come together, share our stories and take action.

Please remember to bring:

  • Your fuel bills (or a record of prepayment meter expenses) and/or something symbolic of what you can’t afford because of your bills.
  • Warm clothing, a blanket, flask, hot water bottle, and if there is a threat of rain, then good rain gear, good shoes, and a brolly. We won’t let the weather beat us and we’ll all find a pub or cafe to go together afterwards to warm up and keep on talking.

There will be space for a number of people to speak out about their own situation for a couple of minutes each. Would you like to be one of them? Let us know in advance, or just come forward on the day. If you have something to say but don’t want to speak, please bring your story on paper, or post it on our website by clicking here. You can also post your message on our website to be read out on the day if you can’t make it.

Other events

We really hope that you can make it on Saturday 16th. But, if you can’t, check out what else is happening around London and the rest of the UK as part of our national weekend of action to Stop the Great Fuel Robbery. Find out about this here.

Any questions, get in touch. Email us at fuelpovertyaction@gmail.com or give us a call on 07586 482 157.
